Community Montessori's Relationship Instruction
Per Indiana Code 20-30-5-13
In today’s digital world, it is easy for families to feel overwhelmed by the many influences shaping their child/teen's development. Research offers reassurance, noting that parents are the single greatest influence on adolescents’ decisions about sex, though this impact is often underestimated (Pediatric Clinics of North America).

Community Montessori values a strong partnership with families as learners grow and become more curious about themselves and the world around them. The school is committed to ongoing professional learning so staff can support the whole development of each learner - socially, emotionally, and cognitively. As professionals in child development and learning, staff strive to engage curiosity wherever it arises, grounding conversations in current research while also acknowledging common beliefs children/teens may encounter.

While values are always guided by families, the school does not avoid thoughtful, age-appropriate conversations about development, relationships, and sexuality. These discussions are approached with care, respect, and openness. More structured and developmentally appropriate conversations are offered to partner with families in supporting each child/teen’s wellness and social‑emotional growth. Although related topics are supported throughout the year, Relationship instruction most often takes place in the spring semester.

Per the new Indiana Code 20-30-5-13, parents/guardians will need to fill out consent for their learner to continue to participate in this instruction. The form will be shared with families via email or during enrollment.
