I am humbled by the staff and families I learn and grow with each day. As Glenn (my amazing husband since 1991) and I researched schools for our own children (Kaitlin, Class of 2011, and Kasey, Class of 2014), we were both drawn to the philosophy and beliefs of Maria Montessori which lead us to opening Community Montessori in 1998. My background and degree in education from Indiana University gave me a foundation for my Masters in Montessori education through Xavier University. I am currently a licensed educator in Indiana from early childhood education through high school with two Montessori Credentials.
I feel honored to be a part of a place that provides an opportunity for young individuals to develop skills that will help them become lifelong learners. Since we began the school in 1998, I have had the privilege to work closely with countless learners and their families. I have enjoyed helping create an atmosphere that views learners as individuals and supports their passions to help build a stronger community. I’m blessed to have three incredible women in my life. Barbara who I have been married to for 20+ years, and Kaitlin and Kasey, who have both graduated from our school.
I am a post-graduate in Business studies and Management and have been a parent at Community Montessori since 2012. Being thoroughly impressed with the Montessori philosophy, I began volunteering which helped me get a better understanding of the philosophy. I admire the fact that everyone in the CM community is treated with the same level of respect, be it a learner or an adult. In my spare time, I like to cook, cross-stitch and watch British comedies
My journey with Community Montessori began as a parent in 2006 when my oldest daughter started school here. For five years I served the school as PIP Council Treasurer and then as President. Before volunteering at the school I worked in the banking industry for 15 years. My journey in banking began in auditing before moving on to other roles where I gained many years of experience in the full spectrum of accounting. I am excited to serve the school community with my financial expertise.
I joined Community Montessori in 2024, bringing seven years of experience from Louisville Tourism, where I worked with local partners and guided visitors. I studied French and Spanish at Hanover College and earned a Master's in Education from the University of Louisville. Outside of work, I enjoy science fiction and fantasy literature, TV, and movies, traveling with family and friends, and pursuing modern calligraphy and hand lettering.
I joined Community Montessori in 2011. Before that I spent several years volunteering and serving on the PIP Council. I graduated from Ball State University where I majored in History and minored in Business Administration and Sociology. I love to spend my time reading, volunteering at APA, playing with my dogs, going to concerts and gardening. I have 2 wonderful sons who attended Community Montessori.
2025 is my first year here at Community Montessori. I have a Bachelor of Science in Secondary English Education and a certification in Family and Consumer Sciences. In the past, I have taught homeschool co-ops, adult education, middle and high school English, and high school early childhood education. As I taught my early childhood education students about the Montessori approach, I fell in love with its focus on independence and connection. I am grateful to join several members of my family. My two younger daughters are learners in the Woods, and my two older children work here in early education. In my free time, I enjoy reading, spending time with my husband and children, and helping with the PFLAG youth group in my community.

I work diligently to ensure that our school remains a place where learners, staff, and visitors can thrive. From sweeping the floors to meticulously tidying up studios, I take pride in my contributions to the overall well-being of our community! When I'm not tidying up, I have a flair for creativity that I indulge in my free time. I'm drawn to the captivating world of arcade themes, where I find solace in exploring virtual worlds and engaging with the artistry behind them. Additionally, I have a passion for riding motorcycles, cherishing the freedom and exhilaration that comes with each journey.

My Community Montessori journey began in 2025 when my daughter joined the Nurtury. Shortly after, I became a Developmental Specialist for Gemstone. When I’m not floating between studios, I enjoy baking sweet treats to share, spending time with my family, and thrifting for unique finds.

I have been lucky to grow with Community Montessori since 2005. It's with joy that I get to play with the Island learners. I graduated from IU with a degree in Elementary Education and completed my Secondary Montessori Certification in January 2020 . I knew I wanted to share my love of land, travel, and culture with learners in the way that CM encourages. When I'm not here, you'll find me taking groups camping, running, experimenting in the kitchen, or hanging with my family.
During the 2024-2025 school year, I had the joy of being a student teacher here at Community Montessori. I’m beyond excited to return—this time as a co-teacher in Monsoon! My relationship with CM began in 2013, when my eldest became a learner in Trapezoid Studio. Being at Community Montessori speaks to my enthusiasm for learning and for being a meaningful part of young people’s education. That the school encourages learners to develop their own challenges and to seek and evaluate their own solutions means it encourages the scientist in everyone. It’s exciting to be a part of that!

This year, I’m overjoyed to be part of the Woods program! When I’m not at school, you can often find me oil painting, foraging, admiring an interesting rock, or tinkering with a project. One of my core beliefs is that we are all intrinsically creative. Whether through painting, poetry, dance, writing, or other forms of expression, creativity connects us to one another and to our shared humanity. I look forward to building meaningful relationships with the families here and deepening our sense of community.
My family has been a part of the CM community since 2007 when my oldest began in Ellipse studio. After studying Montessori philosophy and completing my degree in secondary science education, I joined the CM staff in the Islands, 2013-2016, and returned in 2022. My special super-power is connecting with adolescents and teens. My favorite pastimes include restoring my historic downtown New Albany home, reading Young Adult fiction, roller-skating, and hanging out with my family. I am a proud queer human with a passion for justice: racial, disability, food, and social, and I dream of starting a Library of Things and living in intentional community.
