The Admissions Process

Welcome! We are so glad you are considering Community Montessori for your child. Our annual enrollment for all ages is held in early April for the upcoming school year. Admission is a multi-step process consisting of the application, lottery (if applicable), and enrollment. The process is slightly different depending on your child’s age, so please read below for more information.

Early Education: Our Early Education program consists of 3 & 4 year olds in a multi-age environment that includes “kindergarten” age children. All three ages are together in a studio as part of the Montessori philosophy that we also learn from each other. The Early Education program is a tuition-based program. (Children that will be 5 by August 1st can apply to our public charter school.) All children in the Early Education program should be three years of age with an independent bathroom routine established.

Families wishing to apply to the Early Education program will attend an observation to discuss the school’s philosophy and ensure our school is the right fit for your family. Observations are held every Wednesday at 9 am (October – May). An application and some additional paperwork will be turned in in order for your child’s application to be complete. All applications are dated and spaces are filled on a first-come basis.

If applying for the current school year: Once the application is complete a spot will be offered if there are any spaces available.

If applying for the upcoming school year: Families will be mailed an enrollment form at the end of March and should attend enrollment in April to enroll their child for the upcoming year.

It is understood that children enrolled in the Early Education program will be able to re-enroll for the next year if the parents have met their responsibilities in the Parent Commitment Form to foster the best learning environment for their child, without reapplying. Currently enrolled learners will automatically be sent an enrollment packet in March for April enrollment for the upcoming year.

Early Education learners who will be five years old by August first of the upcoming year are eligible for enrollment in “kindergarten” and will need to re-apply based on Charter School guidelines, as the 5 year old program, while still Early Education, is part of the Charter School.

Charter School: Our Charter School program is for ages 5-18 (“kindergarten” through “twelfth grade”), although we only enroll new learners through “10th grade” because of our high expectations and graduation requirements. The Charter School program receives state funding and is a tuition-free program.

Any child residing in the state of Indiana that is five years old by August 1 of the attendance year may apply. Children turning 5 years old after August 1 will only be considered applicants if there are spaces available and only after successfully completing an early entry evaluation with a Community Montessori staff member.

Families wishing to apply to the Charter School program will attend an observation session to discuss the school’s philosophy and ensure our school is the right fit for your family. Observations are held every Wednesday at 9 am (October-May). At that time the Family Communication Form and Parent Partner/Teen Commitment Form(s) must be completed, as well as the application, if you have not already returned one to us.

In order to be considered for admission in our annual admission lottery, families applying to the Charter School will need complete the entire application process by the first Friday in February of the attendance year. Families completing this application process after the first Friday in February will be added to the waiting list (or enrolled if spaces are available).

The application information is slightly different for our Elementary level (“grades 1-6”) than for our Teens level (“grades 7-12”). Click here for an Elementary Application and here for a Teens Application.

**Note: We only enroll new learners through “10th grade”. This is to ensure they have ample time to complete our school’s specific graduation requirements.

It is understood that children enrolled in the Charter School will be able to re-enroll each year without reapplying. However, “Kindergarteners” moving to “first grade” may be subject to an additional lottery if spaces are not available.
