OUR “DREAM SCHOOL” - A History

Watch how we grew (click here)

In 2002 we began our partnership with our Architect to design a building that reflects a respect of the learner and the overall belief system of Community Montessori.  We also created an Expansion Committee of parents, staff, and children to plan and design the overall learning environment.  Over the past eight years, we have developed the design and rationale of the “Dream School.”

The result is the “Dream School,” which includes:

  • Learning areas which are developmentally appropriate for each specific age grouping (We even have small doors!).
  • Seventeen studio learning centers
  • Commons spaces which offer a blended environment to support all learning styles and learning preferences.
  • Seminar areas which allow staff and members of the community to present topics of interest and connect the ‘real world’ to their daily work.
  • A Media Center which offers a parent library, as well as additional materials for studios to expand their own studio libraries.
  • A Distance Learning Lab that allows staff and teens to make and participate in presentations using multimedia/video.
  • Drama/Theater areas in both the 6-12 area and 12-18 area, which allow learners to create plays and other theatrical presentations.
  • A state of the art Science lab to integrate learning and spark creativity.
  • Single-user restrooms which provide a private, homelike environment.
  • Two Consumer Science Labs (for health awareness)
  • Outdoor learning labs allow children to explore their interests outside the boundaries of a classroom.
  • A Multi-purpose Activity Center (MAC) to encourage youth and adult fitness programs that enhance our total wellness program.
  • Art Creativity Studio which encourages children and teens to explore their creativity includes a kiln for pottery creations

Nestled on our 11-acre site, the building is integrated into the environment to further show the students that learning happens everywhere and at all times.  Our learning environment with multiple learning areas and community use areas connect our community with the learning experiences of the child.  The building will help fulfill many of the goals for Community Montessori, and will provide a truly powerful and positive educational choice for our community.
